API pricing

Start free. Pay when you use it. Move up when your volume does.

On paid plans and pay as you go, you are billed for documents you successfully create in production. Not for API calls, not for retries, not for the requests that fail.

Billed
  • A document you successfully create in production
  • For e-Factura, one price covers the whole lifecycle: creation, validation, ANAF submission, retries, status and receipt
  • A storno, which is a new fiscal document in its own right
  • A document ANAF rejects after we created it: it holds a series number, and only a storno undoes it
Never billed
  • GET and read requests
  • Status checks
  • Authentication
  • Webhook deliveries
  • PDF and XML downloads
  • ANAF status checks
  • e-Factura retries
  • Failed or invalid requests

Soft and hard quota

A busy month will not produce a surprise bill

You get warnings as you approach and reach the soft quota. Go past it and you keep working up to the hard quota, with no overage fee in between. A traffic spike costs you exactly the same as a quiet month.

Worked example

Growth: 1,000 soft quota, 1,500 hard quota

Month 1 Allowed

1,200 documents

You pass the soft quota. We warn you at 800 and again at 1,000, and you keep working up to 1,500.

Month 2 Allowed

1,350 documents

Second month in a row over the soft quota. Same warnings, still up to 1,500.

Month 3 Limited

Limit is 1,000

After two months in a row over, your limit this month becomes the soft quota, a sign it is time for Scale. Reads keep working; only documents past 1,000 are refused. Changing plan lifts it immediately.

The counter is consecutive, not cumulative. One month at or under the soft quota lifts the lower limit at the next reset, so the next busy month counts as a first one again. Nothing is ever suspended: only new documents above the limit are refused.

Pay as you go

0.12 RON a document, no subscription

No monthly fee, no quotas, no commitment. You pay for successful production documents and nothing else, billed monthly. You set a spending limit (150 RON by default, with a warning at 120 RON), so a runaway loop can never run up a bill. It is the right call while your volume is low or unpredictable.

Documents a month Pay as you go Cheapest plan that covers it Plan cost
50 6 RON Launch 29 RON
100 12 RON Launch 29 RON
250 30 RON Launch 29 RON
500 60 RON Growth 59 RON
1,000 120 RON Growth 59 RON
2,000 240 RON Scale 119 RON
3,000 360 RON Scale 119 RON
5,000 600 RON Scale+ 239 RON
7,500 900 RON Scale+ 239 RON
10,000 1,200 RON High Volume Custom

Below roughly 242 documents a month, pay as you go is the cheaper option and the highlighted rows show it. Past that a subscription wins, and the gap widens fast: at 3,000 documents, Scale costs a third of what pay as you go would.

Pay as you go is available on accounts without an API plan. Start pay as you go on the developer portal, and adjust your limit any time on the spending page.

SaaS and platform integrations

Two ways to run Billyou for your customers

Every company on Billyou has its own account and its own plan. That holds in both models, so one heavy customer never eats another one's headroom.

Customer paid

Each of your customers connects their own Billyou account and picks their own plan. Billing and quotas stay with them, and nothing lands on your invoice.

Partner paid

You provision Billyou for your customers and pay their subscriptions. Plans and quotas still sit per company, so one heavy customer never eats another one's headroom.

High volume · SLA · Contracts

Past 10,000 documents a month

At that volume a published plan stops being the right shape. We size quotas, rate limits, support and SLA around your actual traffic, and you get the terms in writing.

  • We reply to API requests within one working day
  • A 15 minute call, not a sales process
  • MSA and DPA prepared as part of the quote
  • Support direct from the team that built the API

Questions about billing

A document you successfully create through the API in production. A request that fails before anything is created is not billed. Once a document exists it is billed even if ANAF later rejects it, because it already holds a series number and only a storno can undo it. That storno is itself a new fiscal document, so it counts as one too. Reads, status checks, webhook deliveries and downloads are never billed, no matter how many you make.
Nothing breaks and nothing extra is charged. We warn you at 80% of the soft quota and again when you reach it, and you keep working up to the hard quota. At the hard quota, new documents are refused with a 429 and a Retry-After header until the month resets. Go over the soft quota two months in a row and, from the next month, your limit becomes the soft quota, a sign it is time for the next plan. One month at or under the soft quota lifts it at the next reset, and changing plan lifts it immediately. Pay as you go has no quotas: there, your spending limit does this job.
No. There is no per-document fee on a subscription, which is the point of having two quotas. A spike costs you the same as a quiet month.
No. Quotas are monthly and reset each month, on annual billing too. If you consistently use far less than your soft quota, you are on the wrong plan and should move down.
Yes, in either direction. Pay as you go is the cheaper option below roughly 242 documents a month. Past that a subscription wins, and the gap widens quickly. Pay as you go is for accounts without an API plan, so to move back from a subscription you cancel it first.
Rate limiting runs as a 60 second sliding window applied per organization, so all of your API keys draw on one shared budget rather than a budget each. Rate-limited responses carry X-RateLimit-Limit, X-RateLimit-Remaining and X-RateLimit-Reset, and a 429 returns errorCode RATE_LIMIT_EXCEEDED along with retryAfterSeconds. We raise the limit per organization on request, so tell us your traffic shape. Worth knowing: the limit counts requests while billing counts documents, so polling for status costs you rate limit and never money.
Pay as you go carries no commitment at all: no monthly fee, no quota, no minimum volume. It is billed monthly, against a spending limit you set. Subscriptions are billed monthly, or annually if you take the two months free, and quotas reset every month rather than locking you into a yearly total.
No. An API plan is separate from the app plans on our pricing page and is paid in addition to them. No app plan includes an API plan, Full manager included. Every account gets 9 production documents and 10 production API calls a month for free; past that you need an API plan or pay as you go.
Every pay as you go account has a monthly spending limit, 150 RON by default. We warn you at 120 RON, and you can raise or lower the limit any time on the spending page of the developer portal. A runaway loop can never run up a bill you did not agree to.
9 production documents and 10 production API calls a month, on every account, with no card. On the free tier every production call counts, reads included; paid plans and pay as you go bill documents only. In sandbox, test documents are unlimited; what is capped is API calls, at 2,700 a month per sandbox.
Yes, for every API subscription and for pay as you go. Add your company registration number in your account settings and it goes on the invoice.
